Air filters – the cleaner the better

Air filters – the cleaner the better!

Air filters – have you checked them lately.

I am lucky the previous owners put in some lifetime air filters, and the upstairs filters gives a good “clack” from suction  in the unit when it is full. So I have an outside indicator. Most air filters are the paper kind, which will not have that kind of indicator. Paper filters are really good, if they are changed regularly.

There are reasons for maintenance to the air filters. The most important is the quality of air in your living space. Most of the particles caught in the filters is dead skin cells that we give off. Yuck! I know. If you have a ceiling fan that runs alot, just stop it and look at the blades. Yup! dead skin cells. They find the path of least resistance when they are being wisped through the currents in your house, usually by your HVAC Unit. The air is compromised, because the more junk that is in the filter allows some to eek through. And back through the house it goes.

The paper filters are very cheap. It is best to buy a couple and always have them on hand. I always wrote the days date on the filter so I know when I should (or should of!) change them.

Not to mention that it is putting excess stress on your HVAC unit. That is one of the more expensive pieces of your house. That can be stressed by a $2 filter that is not changed regularly. Since the effectiveness of your HVAC unit is compromised, the air in your house can become stagnet and harbor some bad stuff.

It is simple just change them. I was appalled every time I changed mine, but I was glad that what I was looking at was not in the air. Enough Said!
