Look
for unusable space when looking for a new home.
Unusable
space is just wasted space that you are paying a premium for.
I
can not tell you how many houses we looked at when we were looking
for a new home that had so much space that is waste for the ascetic
look of a house. What I am talking about is if a room has real
high ceilings. It is a great selling point, and it is beautiful,
It also make you feel in awe when you enter the space, and it
makes the home feel better than the real square footage. Remember
that you have to heat and cool that space and that will not be
fun. The storage that is lost astounds me. People do love them.
The ceiling usually follow the lines of the roof forms, this does
not leave much room for insulation. You will also notice that
snow will melt faster on that section of the roof than the others,
because you are paying to heating that snow off. There is not
the proper amount of insulation to keep your precious heat in.
There have been many advancements in insulation that really help
with that, but it does not replace the insulation properties of
an attic.
There
are many things to look for in unusable space. Just use your common
sense, and do not be awed by an aspiring architect that wants
to make a name for themselves. You will usually pay for it in
your bills or storage space.
There
are many more appliance articles in our paint
section. There is more specific information in the links at
the beginning of this article. They can guide you where you need
to go.
