Vanda's orchids are those fascinating orchids that may be grown with relative ease. Vanda orchids are monopodial. The growth of vandal orchids arises from the crown of the plant. Flowers of vandal orchids are available in superbly rich colors also including blue, red, orange and yellow. The flower spikes of vandal are the one which usually carry 8 to 10 blooms, which arises from the base of the leaves and last for several weeks.
Lighting
Vanda orchids requires plenty of light. The direct morning and late afternoon sun can be easily tolerated by Vanda, provided the exposure occurs gradually. The Vanda plants are required to adapt slowly to the any increase in lighting. Always provide full morning sun whenever possible.
Temperature
Vanda orchids are always preferred to be kept on the warmer side. These plants thrive when the nighttime temperatures are between 55 to 70ƒF and daytime temperatures between 65 to 95ƒF.
Watering:
The basic rule of thumb for watering should be as followed with the vandal orchids, that is, more heat more water, less heat less water! Depending upon the temperature, Vandas which are grown in pots should be watered about once or twice a week. During the summer, these plants may require to be watered every 4-5 days. Those Vandas which are grown in baskets require watering often. Plants are required to be watered daily during the summer. Vandas should always dry out in between watering. Always try to water the plants early in the day so that the foliage will be dry by nightfall. In order to prevent bacterial and fungal disease always use Physan 20 once a month.
Humidity
Vandas generally prefer 60 to 80% humidity. A high humidity is very essential during the growing season which ranges from early spring through late fall. During the summers the watering should be supplemented with daily misting of the leaves.
Fertilizer
Vandas are heavy feeders of fertilizers. They should be fertilized on a regular basis
Potting
Vandas may easily be grown in pots. The Vandas which are grown in pots should be repotted once every two years. Repotting should be done in the spring season.
