Miniature Orchids: They are like jewels in your treasure


When we mention flowers there are so many different names that come in our minds. Orchids belong to the family of flowers. Miniature orchids are a smaller version of the flower. The size of miniature orchid varies from a few millimeters to perhaps 10cm.This family of flowers is the largest in the world with thousands of species included under them. Various species differ in sizes, shape and color. Some are so small measuring up to only 1m high, and some miniatures so small that they can be viewed only with a magnifying glass. Not many people would be interested in these dwarf plants, but definitely if taken interest they are like jewels.

Places To Grow Miniature Orchids:
Miniature orchids as compared to other plants are small in size. Because of this they can be grown in limited places. Orchid lovers very well know that these species can be grown on windowsills or in a small hothouse on the balcony, till they discover miniatures. These plants are also hung on long rows of wire in a green house. Miniatures are also seen on pieces of tree fern trunk.
Climate Control process for the growth:
Because they grow indoors the temperature has to be controlled manually. Placing a small electric fan somewhere in the corner can take care of the air circulation around the plants. Modern equipments also help in accurately controlling the light, heat and humidity in the room. The installations can easily control the climate for the growth of the miniature orchids. This is not very costly thus helping in the proper growth.

Different Miniature Orchids and their features:
1) Sophomores coccinea: This miniature jewel in found in Southeast Brazil. Its height is 8to10cm tall but produces red flowers 6-8cm in diameter. These miniatures produce flowers bigger than their own size.
2) Phymatidium Delicatum: Found in Brazil. The size of this miniature is hardly bigger that a figure nail. It is so minute this size includes leaves, flowers, roots etc
3) Small White Orchid: This stands about 6inches and a little more. They prefer hay medows, grassy lands and preferably hilly countryside. These carry a slight smell of vanilla. Tiny flowers grow during the period of May-July.
4) Bog Orchid: Among the many this may be the smallest at about 2-3inches high. They prefer wet ground. Mostly found grown on a cushion of Sphagnum. Their flower is placed on the top; they arrive in the mth of July-Sept.
5) Fen Orchid: One of the rarest to find. They are mainly found in marshy areas and wetland areas. The fenlands of East Anglia, south Wales and Devon are few places you can find them.
