Kitchen
Islands - Do I need one?
Kitchen islands are
a tremendous tool to have within your kitchen. If you are like
many, you never have enough counter space to get the job done
easily. You find yourself struggling with pots and bowls, trying
to make room. Having a kitchen island within your kitchen may
be the solution for you then. But, what should you choose?
What
Is It?
Kitchen islands are
simply islands of counter space. If your kitchen is large enough,
you can place an island in the center of it. Now, these do not
just have to be square, boring areas of room, but should be large
enough to allow you to work. They also help by adding quite a
bit of storage to your kitchen as well. Consider all of your options.
What
Can I Choose From?
Kitchen islands come
in all sizes and shapes. They can be simple and rectangular or
they can be shaped in virtually any way that allows you the room
and look you are after. Many times, they will follow the same
path of your standard kitchen counters but with their own flare,
design and usefulness.
Kitchen islands
can match your current counter tops and cabinets or be their own
look. When choosing them, you'll need to insure that you have
adequate room within your kitchen. Not sure if you do have that
room? Take a large cardboard box, or several, and position them
within your kitchen set up and determine if you actually can work
around that room.
This also helps you
to plan out the size and shape of the kitchen islands you choose.
Can you easily move around them? Is it facing the right away to
allow you to chop vegetables, rinse them and add them to your
pan? Can you easily get around them even with other individuals
within the kitchen area?
What's
Their Use?
There are many things
that make kitchen islands useful. For many, it is the simple addition
of counter space that pleases them. Also, they are quite useful
for added cabinet space or even drawers. But, that is not all
the kitchen islands can add to your kitchen.
- Place a
sink and workspace on the kitchen islands.
- Your range or other appliances can be stationed there.
- Use it as a breakfast bar for morning meals.
- Use it to incorporate your desk.
Kitchen islands are
