An overview of the anatomy of the Walk-Behind Lawn Mower Deck -
A typical Walk-Behind Lawn Mower would have the following parts -

1. Rewind / Starter Handle - Most of the Walk-Behind Lawn Mower engines are started by pulling the rewind / starter cord with the small handle. The mowers constructed with electric engines can be started by the turning a key. The engines with Touch-N-Mow Easy Starting System starts just with the push of a button.

2. Fuel Cap - It is clearly marked on a lawn mower. The fuel tank of the mower needs to be filled with high quality, clean and fresh gasoline only (gasoline mixture should not be used) for smooth starts. Using the Fuel Stabilizer like Fresh Start, to preserve fuel is recommended.

3. Air Cleaner - Usually made of paper or foam, the air filter catches the dirt preventing it from entering the internal engine parts, causing engine troubles and wear and tear.

4. Side Discharge Cover - Keeps the grass clippings and other debris away from the operator.

5. Primer - It pushes the fuel into the carburetor and ensures smooth starting of the engine.

6. Mower Deck - The metal housing or covering shielding the operator from mower blades and debris.

7. Wheel Height Adjustment - One can decide how much grass is to be cut and it helps in raising or lowering the height of the wheels on the deck.

8. Spark Plug - The small, cylinder shaped plug creates a spark in the engine's combustion chamber, causing the fuel and air mixture to ignite and the engine to start.

9. Oil Cap and Oil Dipstick - Oil lubricates the internal engine parts and prevents friction and binding up. Oil cap is located at the top of the engine, and the dipstick used to check the oil level in the engine is located under the oil fill cap.

10. Handlebar - Usually adjustable and provides the operator comforts. Throttle control, starter handle, safety bail or operator control bar, are easily reachable.

11. Bail or Operator Control Bar - It engages and stops the blade rotation and can shut down the engine when released and is located near the main handle bar.
