Steps in Application of Stain: Surface preparation is essential for achieving maximum durability. Allow deck to dry thoroughly. Experts recommend a period of 5 day drying before coat. Use moisture meter to check the water content of wood. 1. If any areas of the deck have started to splinter or crack scrub thoroughly with sand paper to remove any dead wood fibers and till new layer of wood is visible. 1. Then clean with brush to remove debris. 1. Area to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, mildew, oil, or grease. Remove contaminants or chalky residue from weathered painted surfaces by washing with Bejamin Moore clean multipurpose cleaner. 1. Remove scales, flakes, or peels from previously stained or painted decks by scraping or by coating with Bejamin Moore Remove. 1. Decide on the floor pattern and its placement.
