Hot tub

A hot tub is a water-filled wood, plastic or ceramic container in which up to 12 people can lounge. This special piece of bathing equipment usually has a heater for warming the water from 80 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit and may also have jets to bubble the water, which may not be drained out after every use. An average- size hot tub has a capacity of 200 to 400 gallons and normally is equipped with an electric pump. Hot Tubs are also referred to as Spas or Jacuzzis and in plain -speak may be compared to the homely water heater: a large vessel of water kept hot till the need arises to use it. However, it is not as frequently used as domestic hot water, so it is not necessary to heat it for the full day.
Usage of hot tubs:
Regular patterns of those partial to hot tub, points to usage in the morning and then again after dinner or bedtime. Experts recommend that to bring down the operating costs for hot tubs, it is advisable set the heater timer to come on and heat the tub 15-20 minutes before you'll actually be using it and turning the heaters off after you're finished.
Operating costs:
There are benefits offered by certain electric utilities which giver the consumer "off-peak" rates; which refers to those times of the day when the cost of electricity is lower and it makes good financial and home management sense to consider operating the tub heater during those times. The monthly hot tub operating costs are ascertained by the frequency and duration that the heater has to run to maintain the desired temperature and the factors that affect this are mainly: the location of the tub, age and insulation level of the tub and the kind of fuel used to heat the tub. If your hot tub is located inside the house or in an enclosed area outside, the tub will lose less heat to the environment, and therefore cost less, but if outdoors and inadequately insulated, or not well shielded from the wind, it may cost considerably more to heat.
Today's modern hot tubs are better insulated than their earlier versions and depending on the age of your tub, the insulation can range from a thin layer of foam under the tub shell, all the way up to a fully foamed cabinet. A fully-insulated tub will maintain its temperature longer, with less supplemental heat required to maintain the desired temperature and there are insulation covers in the market today which go a long way to ensure that you need not get hot under your collar trying to keep your hot tub warm.
