Bath safety

Bath safety is a very important issue today and accidents at home occur often in the bathroom, which is why safety experts are unanimous in expressing their concern for this area of the house and terming it at the most dangerous room.
How safety in the bath is threatened:
As is natural with children, they tend to be curious about most things and in this search to assuage that curiosity they may like to explore under the sink and in storage areas in the bathroom, thereby increasing the possibility of harming themselves by swallowing, eating or coming in contact with household cleaning products, make-up, hygiene products or medicines. Tiles, floors, bathtubs and toilets all can be slippery at some time and when wet, can cause climbing or walking hazards for all age groups. Cosmetic products like lotions, creams, hair colors and electrical appliances like electric hair dryers, shavers, trimmers and hair styling equipment, can all cause injury if not stored safely and securely; as can long cords to these items which can be found dangling, loose or worn away in parts but still in use.
Solutions towards promoting bath safety:
The best way to promote and ensure bath safety is to look through your home and be aware of the most common items that can poison, injure or cause bad reactions for children or grown ups (or pets, if they happen to wander in) in the bathroom and the entire home. Prevention is always better than cure and bathroom injuries can also be minimized if house owners keep some things in mind.
Tips for ensuring bathroom safety:
Check to see that the temperature to the water heater is not too high to prevent children from being scalded in the tub or the sink and never leave a young child alone in this area. Installing of non-slip rugs or strips at the bottom of the tub will prevent slipping and injury and a cushioned cover over the faucet ensures that if such a thing happens by chance, then the injury is reduced. These are items easily available in hardware and discount stores as are toilet seat covers, which are a must to ensure safety. For added security and to prevent young children from falling in, one can install a toilet seat lock too. It also makes good sense to store adult toiletries like razors, cosmetics, mouthwash, perfumers and such like, out of reach of children in cabinets that have safety locks.
