Bath chair

A bath chair was designed as a support device for those in need of assistance in the bathing area basically. This piece of equipment is useful for all those people who suffer from temporary or permanent nature of restricted use of their trunk control and have limitations for their back strength for which they need support.

Nature and function of a bath chair:
The bath chair is unlike the bath stool in the sense that it has a backrest for supporting the back and at times, this additional feature is what may also be the reason for causing obstruction of easy movement and easy access in bathing the care recipient's back and other body parts.
The similarity to the bath stool is that like its smaller counterpart, the bath chair too has adjustable and four rubber-capped tips. These are the mechanisms that act as suction cups, ensuring that the chair does not shift during the transfer and stays firm in place where it is meant to be.
The bath chair is designed such that it has a wider base than the stool, making it safer than the stool.

Things to keep in mind before purchasing a bath chair:
Since the legs of the bath chair are not completely adjustable like the bath stool, this may prevent a good grip during bathing for the user and it is very important for the buyer to get a precise fit for best value of the product. To ensure a correct fit, it is recommended that one determine the exact requirements by measuring the width of the tub floor. If the tub is too narrow, the rubber tips will not rest on the tub floor but against the tub walls. If the four legs are not connecting the tub floor firmly or evenly, one should not use the bath chair.

Beneficial features of bath chairs:
Some bath chairs have support arms or handgrips while others do not and the former are recommended if budget allows, as these give the user something to hold on to while washing lower extremities. Shower assembly can be used in conjunction with normal household bathing facilities while minimizing the disruption for normal use of the facility and most of these include a track to support the chair above the bath with suspension means for the chair, permitting linear movement along the track and rotary movement as the chair can face outwardly when being engaged and exited by user. The benefit to this is that the chair seat is dished to trap water therein to cleanse the seated areas of the user and a fresh water supply is arranged directly into the seat area to rinse the seated areas
