Lighting - Light of Your Life
Home
Lighting refers to the devices or techniques used for illumination,
usually referring to artificial light sources such as lamps or
other devices. Home lighting can be natural or artificial. Natural
indoor lighting is by windows and skylights and architectural
modifications leading to the lighting by daylight. Artificial
indoor lighting is by means of lamps, and electric lights but
also by gas, candles or oil lamps. Home lighting may be indoor
or outdoor, i.e. landscape. Indoor lighting is a form of furnishing,
and a critical part of interior design while landscape lighting
is done for the garden outside.
Lighting
design requires the consideration of several design factors such
as tasks occurring in the environment, occupants of the environment,
i.e. if they are elderly they require better illumination, initial
and continued operational costs which emphasizes on how much can
you save on your electric bills. Lighting design also looks at
the aesthetic architectural impact, physical size of the environment,
surface characteristics, dirt and dust generation and such other
factors.
If
you have never looked beyond lamps to light your home, you are
missing out on some of the most exciting design opportunities
available. Home lighting has literally thousands of options. Chandeliers,
Pendant lighting, Flush lighting also exists. Alcove lighting,
Recessed lighting, LED lighting, Track lighting are all various
options to choose from.
Children's
lighting involves colorful lights livening up any room. Bathroom
lighting is also an option which must be carefully chosen and
deliberately planned to give your bathroom the most pleasing effect.
Hall lighting, bedroom lighting, kitchen lighting, cabinet lighting,
etc are all types of home lighting to be kept in mind.
Contemporary,
Crystal, Modern, Tiffany and Traditional lighting styles are wide
genres of home lighting. Each has a specific style and aesthetic
value and must be treated in the precise taste that one possesses.
Lighting
is classified by its intended use depending largely on the distribution
of the light produced by the fixture. Task lighting is mainly
functional and is usually the most concentrated, for purposes
such as reading or inspection of materials. Accent lighting is
mainly decorative, intended to highlight pictures or other elements
of interior design or landscaping. General lighting fills in between
the two and is intended for general illumination of an area. Downlighting
is most common, with fixtures on the ceiling casting light downward.
Uplighting is less common, often used to bounce indirect light
off of the ceiling and back down, though this is less efficient
than direct lighting. It can also be used for dramatic effect,
such as creating interesting shadows.
Home
lighting is hence as important as building your home as it requires
deliberate planning and careful execution.
