Inspection, what to bring?
When we had
our new home inspected, I came prepared. I brought my own flash
light, multi tool, screw drivers, sawzall (just joking), and various
other tools. I probably went over board, and began feeling pretty
stupid when the inspector asked what I was planning to do today.
I was just not going to leave any stone unturned.
So what do
you really need to bring to the home inspection.
1. Check -
you will not get very far with out money.
2. Clothes
you can get dirty, or coveralls - If you are looking a house that
has a crawl space. If you are smart you will crawl every inch
of the space. and look at everything. Please remove them or have
a change before you enter the house.
3. Flash light
- as bright as you can with it still being portable. And fresh
batteries, nothing stinks worse than getting half way through
and your light going out.
4. Multi tool
- to open HVAC vents and what ever else. Just be respectful. You
want this to be your house, but it is not yet.
5. Digital
camera - to take pictures of suspect items and of the space. The
inspector will have a camera, but take your own. The inspector
may frown on this, but remember, you are paying him.
6 Questions
- The most important. Inspectors are usually delighted to shere
their knowledge and expertise with you, if you ask. they can share
tips on maintenance requirements that you need to know. Product
information on what is in the house and what needs to be. This
can also be used as a bargaining tool.
A Home Inspection
is designed to easy some of the tension in the purchase of a new
home. Go into it prepared. Not just with tools, but with knowledge
about that you are going to do. It will help you get the most
out of it.
