Installing
Hardwood on a slab.
I
willl be honest it is quite difficult to do. There are numerous
precautions that you need to take before you install hardwood.
I
would really suggest that you reconsider putting hardwood on a
concrete slab. It usually indicated that you are planning to put
it in the basement. Basements tend to be damp and moldy. If not
treated properly. Both of these are not a good thing for hardwood.
Here
are some options as to keeping it dry. There are a number of waterproofing
sustems that can be applied to the concrete. That will seal out
the moisture. This is imperiative before you start adding hardwood.
Then adding some form of underlayment to give another layer of
moisture barrier to protect your floor that is so subject to the
moisture.
Even
laying the floor is hard, because wilth hardwood on regular subflooring
you have the OSB to nail to. There is nothing to nail to on the
concrete slab. You have to float the floor. This means that the
boards are connected to each other, but not the floor. This restrict
the type of flooring that you can use.
OK,
I have beat it to death. You can do it, but should you do it.
Is the real question that you should ask. There are so many more
options in great flooring. Don't settle your self that you have
to have a particular floor.
