Fluorescent Lighting

Need of invention

Seeing or listening the word ‘Lighting’ we think about lamps, bulbs invented by Thomas Edison which are known as incandescent lights. These lights have a very thin tungsten filament, which is inside the glass sphere, and they work on electricity. The filament inside the light bulbs are so thin that they offer a bit resistance to the electricity where the resistance coverts electrical energy to heat. So the disadvantages of these bulbs are that heat waste lots of electricity. Keeping this point in view and many others there was a necessity of inventing fluorescent lightings. So Alexendre E. Becquerel invented the phenomena of fluorescence for lighting that saves energy and also saves atmospheric pollution.

How fluorescent lightings are more efficient?
Fluorescent lightings produce light in a different manner. At both the ends of the fluorescent tubes there are electrodes and a gas containing argon and mercury vapor inside the tube. Now a stream of electrons flows from one electrode to the other through the gas and bump into the mercury vapor atoms floating inside the fluorescent bulbs. The mercury atoms becomes excited and when they return back to the before state i.e. the unexcited state they release ultraviolet photons which collide with the phosphor coating inside the bulb and this phosphor creates the visible light. So here the phosphors are used to produce light.

Hence fluorescent bulbs are more efficient than incandescent bulbs since it produces less heat and saves more energy. These bulbs can produce between 50 and 100 lumes per watt. Use of fluorescent lighting reduces the cost of electricity comparatively to incandescent bulbs.

Uses of fluorescent lightings
Fluorescent lightings are used in schools, companies, homes, stores, dressing rooms, etc. Now-a-days fluorescent bulbs are more efficient to use since it saves a lot of energy and electricity and comparatively cheaper than the normal bulbs that are used. Its biggest advantage is that switching on and off continuously will not affect the fluorescent bulbs as it affects the normal bulbs. Best manufacturers are Circular fluorescent bulb manufacturer. Other main manufacturers are the Compact fluorescent light bulbs, which have many different types of bulbs with different shapes and the required watt to be used.
