Faux
painting – Ideal places
Faux stone painting should be avoided through out a space. This
might create a gloomy and dark effect and the whole purpose of
breaking the monotony of a space will be lost. So it’s ideal
to use the technique for small areas like a wine cellar, a wall,
an arch, a mural or a pantry door for instance.
Faux
stone painting technique
Follow the following methods for faux stone painting –
1. Base the wall with a coat of color wash. Generally a light
color for the wall is ideal as this provides a good contrast for
the stone, which should ideally be in a dark shade. It is recommended
that you use satin or gloss paints to heighten the effect.
2. Once the color is done and the wall is dried, lay the motor
joints and detail your stones with sponges, brushes, rag finish
etc.
3. Make use of blacks, brown and tan shades, as they give a more
realistic effect.
Faux stone painting is thus a very creative process, and its history
can be traced back to Egyptian faros that employed artisans and
taught them the technique. From then on this technique has truly
come of age and there are a lot of ways in which this is being
used.
