Country Home Furniture

Make The Perfect Choice!

A home is like a mirror as it reflects who one truly is. When looking for furniture for a country home, it should be harmonious and utilitarian in concept and most importantly it should blend with the background. If a country home is furnished with taste, it has an old world charm which strikes a balance between comfort and elegance.

Furnishing your country home -

Period furniture is like the sine qua non of country home furnishing. Chippendale mirrors, tables and chairs tend to form the central theme of the hall, while the living room is mostly a mixture of stuffed chairs and sofas, wall hangings and coffee tables. The drawing room is a more elegant with some period furniture and the library becomes the best room of the house with its overstuffed comfortable chairs and window seats. The dining room which radiates cheer is in perfect keeping with the other rooms. The bedrooms should have mahogany or walnut furniture to harmonize with the curtains. Cane Bamboo and rattan furniture spell a ethnic message.

Small bungalows can generally be furnished with willow furniture with chintz or cretonne cushions. Oak tables, storage boxes and pine keepsake boxes also help to add an air of intimacy and uniqueness to the house. The abundance of fresh air, sunlight and lovely views of the garden express the spirit of the home. Window and fireplace seats, bookshelves in the library and sideboards in the living and dining room are highly functional. Carved end boards and picturesque paneled doors with ornamental hinges lend a touch of austere elegance that is symbolic of a country home. Quail lamps, paddle lamps and basket lamps highlight strong features of a room in a country home. If possible, use of illumination from Japanese and Moorish lanterns can be a soft sight for sore eyes. Also, old brass and bronze lanterns, candelabras help in adding to the rustic touch and give country homes their true spirit. Electric lights subdued by the use of lanterns are often an invaluable addition. The multi colored lampshades and the soothing lights make a great site for tired eyes.
