Most Common Ladder Accidents

In a recent survey it was found that nearly 225,000 accidents happen each year that are directly related to ladder or the better to say due to the misuse or mishandling of the ladder.

John Drengenberg warns the users saying 'The number of emergency room visits from ladder-related injuries totals more than those for lawn mowers and home workshop saws combined. Of course the ladder is dangerous only if it is improperly used. So, whether you're standing on a stepladder to change a light bulb in the living room or on an extension ladder to clean out the gutters, a few precautions can keep you safe around the home."

His point of view should be noted because he is the manager of Consumer Affairs at Underwriters Laboratories Inc., Northbrook, III. Underwriters Laboratories Inc is a not-for-profit product safety testing organization.

The most common ladder accidents occur while working at the vicinity of overhead power lines or electricity.

Unclean and moist rungs are another cause of accident.

Another form of most common ladder accidents occurs if the ladder is not placed on a firm, level surface. Setting the ladder on a muddy, uneven or soft ground has proved to be another cause of ladder accident.

It often happens that the user leaves the ladder totally unattended causing a room for a probable accident.

Sometimes it so happens that the user stretches a hand too much away from the ladder wishing to reach something practically beyond the reach. More often than not the basic balance of the ladder is disrupted and eventually ends in a fatal accident.

There are even reports that leaving the door unlocked while working at the front of it on a ladder resulted in accident. If this sounds abnormal then it is worthy to mention that statistically speaking this type of accident comes within the range of most common ladder accidents.

Climbing a ladder with the user's hand full of different tools and articles may cause fatal accident. This is another form of most common ladder accidents.

Another high frequency of most common ladder accidents occur while using a step ladder. Here, if the spreaders are not open and specifically locked an accident is bound to happen.
