Cleaning
Marble Kitchens
The misconception about
marble counter tops is that they are not as easy to clean marble
kitchens as many think. They are beautiful and very sturdy, but
they are very susceptible to chemicals and solvents.
The best way to cleaning
marble kitchens is pretty simple. Try mixing a unscented liquid
dishwashing detergent with warm water and use a soft sponge or
towel to clean your marble counter tops. It is very important
to thoroughly rinse to remove all soap residue. If you do not
rinse thoroughly the soap buildup could over time damage the stone.
So be careful! Then buff dry with a soft cloth, or terry cloth.
You should never, never let the marble air-dry. Doing so will
leave a residue and end up with a lovely residue.
Any kind of acidic
detergent -- like lemon, vinegar or bathroom cleansers -- can
eat into marble and damage your expensive countertops. If you
are not careful hair dyes, or any other dye (food dye) can also
leave permanent stains. And the alcohol in aftershave lotions
and perfumes can cause ugly etching, and ruin marble countertops.
They are beautiful,
and fun to talk about, but marble countertops are very labor and
maintenance intensive. If you are dead set determined, they are
very beautiful. They add a richness, and depth that synthetic
materials cannot replicate. Just be aware of the proper way to
take care of them.
