Attic
Fans - How do they work?
The simplicity is amazing. The pupose is necessary. The outcome
is mandatory.
They
are designed to replace the moist, hot air that is in your attic
with the much less moist and cooler air outside. It sucks the
aittc air out through the vent hole that is cut for the fan, and
sucks the outside air in through the vents. There are vents that
are designed into roofs whether they are in the ridge of your
house, the eves, or a gable vent. All can be used with an attic
fan.
It
is the same basic idea as if you suck air through a drinking straw.
You "suck" the air that is in the staw out and "fresh"
air is "drawn" in through the other end. The same is
true for your attic. The fan "sucks" the air out and
the vents draw the new air in. Pretty simple.
I
think that it is imperative to have one that is at least temperature
controlled. There are some that are also controlled by moisture
levels. These are nice, but not necessary. I chose one that is
controlled by the temperature, because I was more concerned with
heat than moisture. I have it controlled to turn on at 85 degrees.
