Mps ball screw:
Mps ball screws convert rotary motion into linear motion. They consist
of a screw and a nut. Ball screws have a number of bearing balls that
transfer the load between the nut and the screw. Screws are amazingly
versatile and powerful fasteners. The basic concept is used for holding
all sorts of things together including wood, plastic and metal. Different
varieties have been developed to maximize efficacy for particular applications.
All about screws:
Traditional nuts have a round threaded interior that accommodates the
screw. The threads guide the screw through the nut. Bearing balls are
placed between the nut and the screw. Bearing balls reduce friction in
moving parts. Without the bearing balls, the friction would cause the
moving parts of the ball screw to slow down and to wear out quickly.
A ball screw's nut has an interior ogival shape that creates two arcs
with identical radii that offset the nut's centers. Measurement includes:
Land Diameter - The outside diameter of the screw is called the land
diameter. It will be less than the ball circle diameter. Ball Circle
Diameter - When the bearing balls come in contact with the screw and
nut, the ball circle diameter is the size of the interior circle they
create. Lead - The lead is the axial (parallel) distance that the nut
advances in one revolution around the screw
Also parts of the ball screws include: Bearing Ball Circuit - this is
the closed path through the nut that the bearing balls follow. Return
Guide - The bearing balls circulate in the ball screw's nut. Once the
balls have completed their turn through the ball circuit, the return
guide returns them to the beginning of the circuit.
Conclusion:
A servo-driven ball screw is more suitable when high-feed forces are
involved, and is more economical to install for shorter axis movements.
Two problem areas associated with ball screws are cumulative/lead variation
errors and backlash. Cumulative error over the length of a ball screw
can be compensated by a CNC control system; however, lead variation error
requires a vast amount of computational power to completely correct,
hence most algorithms merely ease the problem, and not fix it. The ball
screw provides mechanical advantage as it transforms rotary motion into
linear motion
