Ball screw actuator:

System actuators use hydraulic, electronic, and pneumatic signals to help activate process control equipment, including mechanical arms, robots, and other automating agents. Common actuators include electrical motors, pistons, electro-active polymers, thermal bimorphs, and more, with every actuator especially equipped to start specific processes. Important factors for actuators include the ability for precision control, operating life, and power consumption versus work ability.

From an engineering perspective, an actuator is a type of transducer, or a device that turns some input signal into physical motion. Most people are familiar with motor actuators, since it occurs all the time in daily life. Linear actuators describe systems that result in a linear motion, while rotary actuators produce a circular result. Specialty actuator parts and equipment can be ordered online from wholesale or volume discount manufacturers.

Ball screw:

Ball screws convert rotary motion into linear motion. They consist of a screw and a nut. Ball screws have a number of bearing balls that transfer the load between the nut and the screw. Traditional nuts have a round threaded interior that accommodates the screw. The threads guide the screw through the nut. A ball screw's nut has an interior ogival shape that creates two arcs with identical radii that offset the nut's centers. Bearing balls are placed between the nut and the screw. Bearing balls reduce friction in moving parts. Without the bearing balls, the friction would cause the moving parts of the ball screw to slow down and to wear out quickly. Parts of ball screw includes, bearing ball Circuit which is a closed path through the nut that the bearing balls follows and a return guide. The bearing balls circulate in the ball screw's nut. Once the balls have completed their turn through the ball circuit, the return guide returns them to the beginning of the circuit.

Care of ball screws:

Ball screws must be lubricated properly and frequently to achieve maximum life expectancy. A 90% reduction in the ball screw's life can occur when the nut and screw are operated without lubrication. Lithium-based grease or light oil is recommended for lubricating most ball screws. Additives such as molysdisulfide or graphite should not be used in your ball screw's lubricants.
Because ball screws use-rolling elements to carry their load, they do not wear out easily. Proper lubrication, regular maintenance, and operation within specified limits should keep ball screws operational for a long time.
