Vinyl Gutters:
Benefits Of Vinyl Gutters
Well, a gutter can be exactly defined as a channel at the edge of a street
or road for carrying away the surface water or a trough fixed under or
along the eaves for draining of rainwater from a roof. Gutters are essential
components of a house as they protect both the roof and the foundations
from any moisture damage by channeling the water from the roof out away
from the house. A heavy rain that flows down house walls to the ground
below can create a great deal of damage. To say the very least, it taxes
paint and wriggles into cracks, contributing to eventual and long-term
decay. At its worst, it can foil the windows, invade the walls, and undermine
the foundations. Gutters protect a home as well as add to its visual
appeal. The gutters on older homes are generally wood, galvanized sheet
metal, or copper. The newer gutters are mostly aluminum or vinyl. The
do-it-yourself metal and vinyl types can be fitted together from 10-foot-long
gutter sections and a variety of corner connectors, end caps and some
other components. Vinyl gutter systems are favored as they are lightweight
and can be easily snapped or glued together. All the do-it-yourself gutter
systems are usually vinyl gutters. One can benefit from the low maintenance
qualities of a vinyl gutter.
How To Paint A Vinyl Gutter On Your Own?
If your vinyl gutter has become dull and discolored, you need not despair.
You can still hope for them to look good. How? Well, paint them and that
too on your own! Here's how -
First, the surface needs to be washed thoroughly for removing dirt, grease,
grime or chalk. Then using a soft bristle brush and warm, soapy water
(you can also use a power-washer, if the area is extensive). Make sure
that you rinse the entire soap residue thoroughly, as it can hinder the
ability of the paint to stick to the surface. You can skip the process
of scraping, sanding, and wire brushing as that will mar and permanently
damage the vinyl surface of your gutter. If you notice any mildew, it
should also be washed off with a solution of 1 part bleach and 3 parts
of water and rinsed thoroughly. Use a quality acrylic exterior latex
paint to gain best results on the vinyl surfaces.
