Managing Problems Of Plumbing Bathtub Drains
Caring for plumbing bathtub drains is a tedious task. You need to take
much care on the part of the plumber for going about with maintaining
plumbing bathtub drains in the correct way. This can best be achieved
only by opting for the services and help of a skilled, experienced and
qualified plumber. Bathtub drains pose certain hurdles, which need to
be overcome while meticulously managing plumbing bathtub drains.
Plumbing bathtub drains - repairing broken tub drain
Repair work of plumbing bathroom drains involves wire coat hanger, needle-nose
pliers, slip-joint pliers, screwdriver, putty knife, towel, plumber's
putty, heat proof grease, overflow plunger, trip lever and linkage.
Generally plumbing bathroom drains may involve the following repairing
procedures:
· The wire coat hanger needs to be straightened and one end of it is
to be bent into a fishing hook style. The broken pieces from the drain can
be removed in the manner of fishing out.
· The old plunger needs to be compared with the replacement part. They
need to be of the same size. The old plunger too may be used if it is in good
shape with some cleaning and replacement of the assembly parts. It is better
if some plumber's grease is applied along the edge.
The mechanism is linked to new overflow plate by use of supplied pin.
The new plunger mechanism is put back into position and overflow plate
is secured with screws. The drain is to be tested to ensure that it works
by closing it and filling the tub with some water. The plate is to be
removed and the seam is to be sealed with plumber's putty. An area should
be left open at the bottom of the plate for permitting overflow. Finally,
the plate is to be reinstalled and fixed with screws. Finally, the excess
plumber's putty is to be removed by cutting away.
Plumbing bathtub drains - clearing up bathtub drains
Removing blockages of plumbing bathtub drains may be accomplished by
running hot water through the drain or using plunger or employing the
chemical method (often as last resort). If you are using a plunger then
the overflow outlet needs to be plugged beforehand. If none of the above
mentioned methods prove successful in removing clog from the drains then
the cover of the drum trap situated beneath the bathtub needs to be removed.
However, this may be quite difficult.
To ease out the process of plumbing bathroom drains, removal of drum
trap is required and for facilitating this good grade of penetrating
oil needs to be applied to the drum trap cover. After letting it settle
for some time a large wrench may be used to remove the cover. If the
wrench fails to remove it then a hacksaw may be used to cut notches on
the edges of the cover. This is to be followed by use of hammer and punch
or cold chisel attempting to remove the cover. After successfully removing
the cover the clogged pipes of plumbing bathroom drains are cleared by
using a drain auger.
