This is the component of a drainage system which works to maintain neutral pressure in the pipe work. When it works it allow the water to flow down drain and through the waste pipes. In this system venting contribute a lot by removing foul or combustive air to make the system free from dust. It is also important to prevent to pressure differentials in the system which could compromise water seals in the pipe to avoid excessive air pressure and make it equal to the surrounding atmospheric pressure. To prevent this sewer pipes should have a vent to atmosphere.
