Feng Shui were found in an ancient manuscript dating back to 200 AD. Feng Shui has moreover developed and has refined through centuries of research, analysis and experimentation. The word Feng Shui stands for water and wind and can be defined as a metaphysical study that focuses on how mankind is affected by its surroundings. The surroundings include both the external environment and the internal layout of the home. Feng Shui suggests various methods on placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment.
Elements of traditional Feng Shui.
1. Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang explains the relativity of things. For instance a sun is yang compared to the moon. Or a graveyard is yin compared a busy mall. Similarly stillness is yin compared to noise that is yang. Thus according to the traditional Feng Shui yin and yang are relative to whatever you are comparing it to. Similarly your house has yin and yang areas too. Your living room is yang where you entertain your guests as compared to bedroom, which is a yin place.
2. From School - the Four Celestial Animals
a. Black Turtle- The Black Turtle in the traditional Feng Shui represents support. As a good chair should have support behind it, likewise even a house should have, which can come in the form of a real mountain. In absence of a real mountain a wall or another house can be considered as a virtual mountain.
b. White Tiger - A similar protection on the right of the house is called as the White Tiger.
c. Green Dragon - A protection on the left house is called as the Green Dragon. Supposedly a Green Dragon should taller than the White Tiger.
d. Red Phoenix - According to the traditional practice you should leave empty space in front of your house. This area is called as the Red Phoenix, where "Qi"(energy) gather and enter the house.
3. 5 Elements - Wu Xing
The traditional Feng Shui practices greatly revolve around the five energies in nature. These energies are identified as water, wood, fire earth and metal.
4. Eight House - The Eight Wandering Stars and Xuan Kong (Flying stars) are the advanced studies in the traditional Feng Shui.
