harmonious life. These locations can be both the external environment
and even the internal placement of the house. They can be the site of
a building, the floor plan of a house or just the layout of a room. Feng
Shui has evolved and refined through years of research, study and experimentation.
Over many centuries different schools of Feng Shui have been developed.
Each school is slightly different from the other though achieving the
same goal. Their distinct approaches towards the subject makes them dissimilar
to each other. Here we have discussed the different Feng Shui schools
and what makes them different to each other.
The Form School
The Form School focuses on the study of the landscape contours, the shapes
of the hills and watercourses. The prior study is concerned with the
positioning of buildings and burial sites. Positioning of the hills is
essential to provide protection from the wind i.e. Feng, and for the
provision of a good water i.e. Shui without flooding.
The Form School approach focuses mainly on finding auspicious landforms,
especially the hseuh embraced by the hills called the Tiger and the Dragon.
This is achieved by studying the contours of the hills surrounding a
site, and determining whether their form will bring good or bad luck.
Compass School
The Compass School for their predictions uses the Eight Trigrams of the
I Ching and relates them with the eight points of the Compass. An eight
-sided Pa Kua is used to interpret the auspicious and inauspicious locations
for the buildings, house floor plans and room layouts.
Black Hat Sect School
Black Hat Sect is a modern version of Feng Shui developed in the USA.
This claims itself to be a hybrid of Tibetan, Buddhism, Taoism and traditional
Feng Shui. This School uses a Ba Gua, but their approach is solely based
on the direction of the front door, rather the n the compass directions.
The Black Hat Sect and the Compass are similar in approach as in this
method the house or the room is divided into eight sectors. Every sector
is bears one aspect of life that might need enhancing.
