Plantation of trees in backyard garden:

A backyard garden is almost unthinkable without the addition of big and small trees. No matter how big or small your backyard is there is bound to be a perfect tree for every garden.

Choosing backyard trees:

The best way of choosing any particular type of tree is by familiarizing yourself with the weather condition, soil quality and the availability of natural sunlight in your area. Once you are aware about the strengths and weaknesses of your yard, you can choose the best possible trees that can adapt with your conditions. Buying trees purely on hearsay and recommendation of your friends should be avoided as the trees can suffer if they are not provided with ideal conditions. Another important issue that you may face while planting trees is to make a decision between planting small plants or, fully matured trees. As far as possible, young trees should be planted, as big trees require professional help, management and a whole lot of money.

Planting trees:

Backyard trees should be planted in conditions, when the weather is not too dry or too stormy. Soil can be prepared beforehand by either replacing the infertile soil or by adding good quality humus. Location should also be chosen wisely. The trees should be planted in an area where there is enough sunlight. Take into consideration the maximum height that the tree will achieve, while planting. Some trees may have wider branches, which can encroach on the road, or your neighour's property. Once you have decided the location, you can dig a hole in the ground, which is deep and wide enough to allow the spread of roots comfortably. The hole can be filled up to a certain limit by leaf mould, loam etc. the hole is then flooded with water to allow the soil to settle down. Water is again added after the tree is planted properly in the hole. But while doing so, make sure that you leave no air pockets behind. Cutting and pruning needs to be done for giving your trees proper shape and direction. Care should also be taken to weed the areas around the tree and maintain the moisture during dry season.

If your trees are planted properly, you can be sure to enjoy their presence for many long years.
