Plastic countertops: The decorative plastic laminates used for the kitchen countertops came into existence in the early 20th century. Plastic laminates were used in the electrical industries or where the use of electricity was tremendous as an insulator. It was invented as a substitute for the ceramic materials that were used for the countertops. Plastic laminates are produced by compressing a number of plastic coated paper sheets. This is done under high pressure and temperature. The paper sheets are sometimes decorative or even plain ones that are not so attractive either but atleast it serves the purpose. The designed paper can be used as the decorative piece, which is protected by the plastic laminate. These laminates are available in various sizes, shapes, thick nesses and colours depending on the choice of the customer. The thickness of the sheets or laminates makes the countertop more durable and sturdy. Plastic laminates are used almost regularly in household countertops, as they are durable, sturdy, have a longer life, easy to install, easy to repair, easy to maintain and change if required and cheap to other materials used for the countertops.
