Creating and maintaining quality lawn grass involves more than irrigation, fertilization, and pesticide applications. A dense, healthy turf demands proper mowing techniques, occasional detaching, and aerification in addition to the fertilization and pest control for the improvement in the lawn. You need to know when and how to use the cultural performance that would help you to enable having a better lawn.

The key to establishing a lawn successfully is proper soil preparation. This soil preparation is the same for planting seed or lawn. The fist step towards lawn maintenance is having your lawn soil tested. Soil testing will help you knowing the pH level and the nutrient, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, levels of the soil and are in the range that would favor the lawn and the growth of the grass. Your cooperative extension office could help you with the test.

Soil testing

Plants require certain nutrients to thrive and if the pH of the soil is at the correct level only then the plant can absorb the nutrients that are present. A soil test can begin to create this level, to let the absorbing of the soil nutrients. The most commonly the chemicals used for the testing are calcium, prosperous, potassium, potassium, and nitrogen, also pH. It is important and is necessary to develop the fertilizing regime for the assessment of their land. The testing of the soil will help you know how much nitrogen level should be maintained to keep the lawn in a better state.

Steps

Remove all the derbies from the location where the planting is to be done. This includes rocks, bottles, large roots, and old tree trunks.
