Cross cut saws:
This is one of the oldest available saws used by man from many generations. Though many variations are made since then, the basic operation of the cross cut saws remain the same. Cross cut saws: This saw belongs to the family of handsaws and is more popularly used for cutting wood. The name cross cut derives from its cutting style. They cut across the grain unlike the ripsaws. The cross cut saws can also be divided into two main types, the two -man cross cuts and one- man cross cut saws. The cross cut saw performs the dual operation of cutting and purging away of sawdust. For facilitating the removal of sawdust many cross cut saws have the facility of rakers. Cross cuts have special teeth that facilitate the cutting of wood at the right angle in the direction of the wood grain. Each tooth therefore acts like a knife-edge and slice cleanly through the wood. Most of the crosscuts have similar designs; they have a wooden handle, which facilitates the saw to work as a square for the marking of materials to be cut at right angles. There are several designs available in terms of saw teeth as well. The most common designs are the champion and lance designs. The champion variety of saw is especially efficient for hardwood while the lance design works well on softwood. However they can be interchanged if desired. Where to get your cut saw? Many a times cross cut saws can be brought secondhand from antique shops or they can be purchased brand new. New cross cut saws have more speed, and work more smoothly. However, the basic operations of both the saws are the same. While buying an old saw be sure to check it for rust or broken teeth. Rusty saws can create problems for sawing cleanly while saws with broken teeth are definitely a bad bargain. If cross cuts are dull, as the old saws can be due to lack of maintenance, they can be sharpened easily enough at home. After buying, you need to take care of your saws by proper storage and handling. With the help of these simple guidelines, you will be able to find a cross cut saw best suitable for your needs.
