Minimum garden water usage:

Importance of conservation:

We seldom appreciate those things that are plentiful and easy to obtain and unfortunately the same is the case with water. Very few of us may be aware of the fact that treated water is carefully manufactured product that appears in our houses only after traveling through miles of pipe lines and lengthy treatment processes. Water is a valuable resource that should not be wasted. Conservation of water is not beneficial form the saving utility bills point of view but it has also got a lot of related savings on other services. Like if we use less hot water there is less need of energy to heat the water, which reduces the gas and electric bills. More use of less water will also put less water down the drains that will also save sewer services.

Saving water in the gardens and outdoors:

Upon careful observation, one can easily notice that half or more of the water piped into homes is going right back out through hoses onto lawns and gardens especially during the summer times. It should always be kept in mind that the more usage of water is done for outdoor purposes the more is the chance of wastage as there is no way to retrieve that water or recycle it. By simply applying common sense we conserve a lot of water without turning the lawns brown or get the car dirty. One can start by the lawn sprinklers. After turning them on it's easy to forget how much water is wasted in a short period of time. A single lawn sprinkler spraying five gallons per minute has the capacity to use 50% more water in just one hour than a combination of ten toilets flushes, two 5-minute showers, two dishwasher loads and a full load of clothes. The basic principle of lawn and garden watering is not to give the lawns and plants more than they need. It is not necessary to follow a fixed watering schedule. Watering should only be done when the grass or plants show signs of needing it. It should always be remembered that over watering is bad for plants and lawns.
