LAMPSHADES
A lampshade is a decorative fixture that covers the light bulb. The purpose of this feature is to control the light quality of the bulb and also make it soft. Providing a lampshade diffuses the light.
Shapes and sizes
Lampshades can be kept on the bedside table, can be hung from the ceiling and also can be kept on the flooring.
The bedside table lamp can carry a small shade, a corner lamp shade may be of a little larger size if it is going to be hung somewhere, and it may be of a larger size.
There are many shapes available but a pyramidal or conical shaped lampshade is good for the bedside. It is attractive as well as easy to maintain. A cylindrical or spherical lampshade is advisable for a corner. For outdoor purpose like terrace, balcony or lawn, a comparatively smaller and compact lampshade should be used. Many fancy shapes like a mushroom, a lotus flower, a little girl carrying an umbrella etc. are also available.
There are numerous materials available in the market. Wooden lampshades are the best since they are easy to clean and certainly have a decent look. Thick paper is also used many a times because it has a very unique appearance and the light quality produced after turning the bulb on; is very good. But the drawback of a paper lampshade is that a lot of dust sits on it and it cannot be washed. Also that being lightweight, it gets swayed along with a strong current of wind.
The thickness of the material used a lampshade governs the lumens that are ultimately going to reach at a desirable distance. Lampshades get your home a very smart look; gifting one would be a good idea too.
Color
The color of a lampshade must be as neutral as possible, but can also be of a bright eye-catching shade. Only care to be taken is that it should go well with the color scheme of other items of interiors, like color of the sofa, curtains etc.
