CABINETS
A cabinet is a cupboard with drawers and / or shelves. It is used mainly for storage purpose. It usually has two or four big shelves, four to six drawers and smaller shelves. The height of a whole cabinet is around 7 Ft. and width is minimum 2 Ft. where 3 ñ 4 Ft. is advisable.
Purpose
A cabinet in a bedroom is very useful and almost essential in a teenagerís bedroom, since there are many loose and small articles that get lost easily but are required frequently and need to be stored. Stationery items like stapler, punching machine, gum etc.; keys; spectacles or a pair of sunshades etc. should be kept in the middle drawers so that they come in handy. Torch, batteries, camera, tool kit etc. should be kept in the upper drawers or shelves and things like shoe laces, dusters etc. must be stored in the lowermost drawers or shelves. The heights of drawers must be minimum 4î and 6î is advisable.
Locks are fitted according to the ownerís requirements. Usually, some drawers should have a locking system, but more than half of them do not.
Cabinets are available in all types of shapes, sizes and colors. They are made from wood, PVC or fiber glass or plastic etc. Wooden cabinets look more elegant along with stainless steel. Plastic is also maintenance friendly and looks nice if used good quality.
The color and hardware used for a cabinet must go well with rest of the furniture in the bedroom. Attractive handles add to the look. A well designed cabinet may also have a come design on the shutters etc.
A cabinet must be kept near the bedroom door in order to have ready access to the things inside.
Stocking it up
A cabinet may also be placed near the bed. This will help the owner; especially girls, keep many items like wrist watch, comb, hair band, etc. while going to bed.
A cabinet or more than 2 cabinets can be placed in between two spaces and act as a partition between bedroom and dressing.
